Hope in Blue was born in a derelict site in Sicily. Its shapes and marks are echoes of the once-triumphant building which stood proud here where I’m writing from.
Dust, broken wood, rusty nails and bits and pieces have been stamped in its composition, with tones of the blue seas around the site.
As architect and artist, I reverse-engineer my role in a building - as I contemplate in a deeper level the ‘sustainability’ of our built environment and how, thankfully, nature quickly takes back what we leave to it. There’s hope, though, in the immense blue sea around it, in the huge bushes and the birds nesting in the site, as nature is slowing taking back what was once hers. I have hope, in blue.
